Female Athlete of the Week Kailyn Kugler has been on fire for the UCSB women’s soccer team, which has one three consecutive Big West games. In those games, the junior has scored four goals, including two game-winners. On Sunday, she scored both goals — including a game-winning penalty kick with less than a minute to go in double-overtime — as the Gauchos defeated UC Riverside 2-1 at Harder Stadium.
Male Athlete of the Week Mark Moreno is one of the main reasons why the SBCC cross-country team has moved up from 12th to fourth in the Western State Conference this year. The sophomore has won back-to-back races at the Bakersfield Invitational and the WSC Preview Meet. The former included 90 runners, and the latter 120.
