Many of the players on the San Marcos football team had nicknames. The nickname coach Anthony Linebaugh gave offensive tackle Colin Welsh was “482.”

“The caveat after that was … not his 40 time,” Linebaugh quipped at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table luncheon.

The number is actually 4.82, which represents the grade point average held by Welsh, San Marcos’ Scholar Athlete of the Year award winner.
Welsh earned that lofty GPA carrying a class load that includes Advanced Placement Economics and English Literature. He is a member of the National Honor Society and is an AP Scholar with Distinction.

He was captain of the football team and earned All-Channel League first team honors. He also captains the school’s lacrosse team.

Welsh’s other school activities include varsity mock trial, the Autism Awareness Club and being a member of the AAPLE Academy, the Accelerated Academic Program for Leadership and Enrichment.

Welsh is interested in attending either Pomona College or the University of Wisconsin.
