Carpinteria’s Moore, San Marcos’ Trumbull lead teams to titles

Rayshaun Moore and Sophie Trumbull helped their respective teams end long tournament championship droughts over the weekend.

Their performances earned them Athlete of the Week honors at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.

Trumbull, the sophomore goalie for the San Marcos girls water polo team, made some huge saves in the fourth period of the championship game at the Villa Park Tournament, including one from point-blank range with two seconds left in regulation, helping the Royals hold off Orange Lutheran 10-9, for their first-ever title.

Moore led the Carpinteria boys basketball team to the title at the Fillmore Tournament, the school’s first title in more than a decade. Moore earned MVP honors. In the final against Fillmore, he scored 11 points and dished out eight assists. He had 16 points and assisted on a the game-winning 3-pointer in a quarterfinal victory. Earlier in the week, he scored 21 points in a win over Providence.

The male athletes that were honorable mention selections include Tejon Williams (SBCC basketball), Ryan Fidel (Dos Pueblos wrestling) and Bolden Brace (Santa Barbara High basketball).

The female honorable mention choices include Alondra Jimenez (Santa Barbara High basketball), Camila Casanueva (Dos Pueblos basketball), Ryann Neushul (Dos Pueblos water polo), Summer Soto (Bishop Diego basketball), Krissy Karr (Westmont basketball) and Destinee King (SBCC basketball).
