Bocce ball player David Schottler was honored as the Special Olympics Athlete of the Month at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon. Schottler competed at last summer’s Special Olympics Summer Games and plays in the Monday Bocce League at Arnoldi’s Restaurant. Royals Nnoli, Reichard, Perera win Channel League championships

It was a big week for San Marcos athletes at Channel League Championship competitions. The Royals won several titles, and three of their champions were honored Monday as Athletes of the Week at the final Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon of the 2015-16 school year. Samsun Keithley’s return is a blessing for Santa Barbara High baseball

First-year Santa Barbara High baseball coach Donny Warrecker wasn’t sure he’d have an experienced catcher at the start of the season. His worries were eased by the quick recovery of Samsun Keithley. Keithley will be behind the plate this week when the Dons twice play rival San Marcos with a shot at winning the Channel League title at stake. Jose Castrejon excels in track and field

Jose Castrejon was honored as the Special Olympics Athlete of the Month at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon. Castrejon has competed in Special Olympics for nine years. His sports include softball, tennis, track & field and floor hockey. He won five medals at a recent Special Olympics track and field meet, including a gold medal in the 4x100 relay. Sarah Douglas embraced the full high school experience and more at San Marcos. SBCC baseball coach Jeff Walker credited a knock on the head for helping his baseball team win a key game against Ventura on Saturday.
