UC Santa Barbara swim coach Gregg Wilson has been coming to the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table’s press luncheons almost as long as it’s been hosting them. When Wilson stepped to the podium on Monday, he announced it was his last time speaking as as head coach of the Gauchos. “It’s been a good run. All-City Football Team kicks off 2016 luncheon schedule

The new year of Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheons kicked off Monday with the presentation of the Presidio Sports All-City Football Team. Twenty-six players from seven football programs in the area were selected to the elite squad. Bishop Diego seniors AV Bennett and Matt Shotwell were the offensive and defensive MVPs. Westmont basketball hungry for more success

The weather is changing in Santa Barbara and so too are the sports seasons. At Monday's Athletic Round Table Press Luncheon, there were reports from playoff teams at the pinnacle of their seasons as well as initial introductions to several winter sports teams just getting started. Taira named Carpinteria’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Bryan Taira was named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Scholar-Athlete of the Year from Carpinteria High School on Monday. Taira plays tennis and soccer for the Warriors in addition to his host of other academic and leadership activities. The senior holds a GPA of 4.28 with a course load including multiple AP classes. Bishop Diego football player Mike Soracco rushed for 266 yards and two touchdowns in a CIF victory and Jackie Lopez scored two goals in the GSAC Championship game to lift Westmont's women's soccer team to the title. The pair were voted Athletes of the Week by the media and recognized on Monday at the Athletic Round Table press luncheon. Dos Pueblos running back Manny Nwosu and Santa Barbara High kicker Alea Hyatt were honored as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon. Nwosu, a 6-foot, 195-pound senior, amassed five touchdowns and 340 all-purpose yards in the Chargers’ 53-28 win over Carpinteria. He rushed 16 times for 218 yards and a hefty 13.6-yard average. Press Luncheon: Hyatt gets a kick out of football debut

Alea Hyatt knows a thing or two about making big kicks in pressure situations. As a star on the Santa Barbara High girls soccer team, she led the squad in scoring last year with 7 goals and 6 assists and was named to Presidio Sports All-City team. On Friday night, she carried that talent over to the gridiron in her prep football debut. Caleb Jones, a junior on the Providence School basketball team, is already giving back to the sport. Jones was honored Monday as the school's recipient of the Phil Womble Ethics in Sports Award.
