Aliyah Huerta-Leipner makes impact on diamond, in classroom at San Marcos

Aliyah Huerta-Leipner is an impact player on the softball field for San Marcos. She’s started for three years, earning All-Channel League honors each season, and was part of the Royals’ CIF-Southern Section finalist team last spring. She’s also played on CIF playoff teams in volleyball and soccer. Huerta-Leipner is an impact student in the classroom, too. San Marcos’ Ryan Godges, UCSB’s Drew Edelman Tearing It Up on Hardwood

San Marcos basketball sharpshooter Ryan Godges and center Drew Edelman of the UCSB women’s basketball team have been named the first Athletes of the Week of the new year. They were recognized at Monday's Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry's Plaza Cafe. Godges had games of 36 and 27 points in San Marcos victories over Royal (88-48)  and Compton (73-60), respectively. Westmont coach Kirsten Moore exposes her daughter Alexis to college dorm life

It was a back-to-the future moment for Westmont women’s basketball coach Kirsten Moore, when she and her team were evacuated from campus because of the Thomas Fire and spent a week in a dormitory at The Master’s University in Santa Clarita. Ashton Borgeson, John Harris lead Bishop to Regional title; Ryann Neushul powers DP to Villa Park Tourney title

Ashton Borgeson and John Harris of the Bishop Diego football team and Ryann Neushul of the Dos Pueblos girls water polo team have been named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week. Borgeson and Harris led Bishop Diego to a 41-7 victory over Quartz Hill in the CIF State Division 3AA Regional Championship game last Saturday at Cal Lutheran. Chris Evans brings home a pair of bronze medals from Fall Games

Chris Evans was presented the Special Olympics Athlete of the Month Award for his play on the tennis court. Evans won bronze medals in singles and double at the recent Special Olympics Fall Games in Orange County. “As a competitor, he rarely comes out of a competition without some hardware,” said tennis coach Liz Frech. “What I appreciate about him is his compassion and kindness to his teammates, most notably to his doubles partner. Andres Santa Maria is standout player on soccer team

Andres Santa Maria was presented the award for his solid play on the soccer field. “He has the ability to move from offense to defense like nobody else on the field. Chase Murphy is Santa Barbara High’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year award winner for the 2017-18 school year. He was presented the award at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon.
