Basketball player Susan Carey and track athlete Michelle Oliner were honored as the Special Olympics Athletes of the Month at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon. Carey has been playing basketball for Special Olympics since 1991. San Marcos boys lacrosse has shot of making playoffs for first time

The San Marcos boys lacrosse team has its sights set on making the playoffs for the first time. The Royals enter the final week of the regular season with a 10-1 record and a No. 18 ranking in the latest L.A./Ventura area poll. Their only loss came in the season opener against Oaks Christian, which is ranked fourth. Dos Pueblos tennis player Miles Baldwin and San Marcos record-setting swimmer Maija Ninness were honored as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe. Ninness beat her own school record in the 100 backstroke and won the event at the Mt. SAC Meet of Champions. She clocked 56.96, breaking the previous mark of 58.39 she set as a freshman in 2015. It’s been a heart-stopping season for the Santa Barbara High boys tennis team. Jaymie Stryker was rehabilitating a surgically repaired shoulder this past girls water polo season, but that wasn’t going to stop her from having a role in San Marcos’ successful season. Kento Perera is standout tennis player and student at San Marcos High. On the court, he’s won three straight Channel League singles championships and is a top-20 player in Southern California.
