On the volleyball court, Sophia Fay is an outstanding back-row defender, digging practically everything that gets past the blockers. Michael Elbert of the Dos Pueblos football team made the play of the game in the Channel League-opening win against Ventura. The San Marcos tennis doubles team of Kelly Coulson and Samantha De Alba swept their opponents from Dos Pueblos, Ventura and Cate to remain undefeated on the season. San Marcos plays Santa Barbara High in the 58th Big Game on Friday night at Warkentin Stadium. Dos Pueblos quarterback Jake Ramirez and Santa Barbara High volleyball standout Erika Foreman were named the Athletes of the Week during Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press conference at Harry’s Plaza Cafe. Ramirez led Dos Pueblos to its fifth straight football win, throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for a pair in a 42-7 victory over Hueneme. Girls volleyball action heating up in Channel League

The competition is heating up among local Channel League girls volleyball teams as rivalry season begins. Michael Madrigal’s talent, attitude make him valuable player on softball team

Michael Madrigal was honored for his play on the softball diamond. Coach Jim Callahan said Madrigal has a great attitude. “He has a willingness to do anything for the team and play any position. He has a super attitude.” The coach praised Madrigal’s defense.
