Laguna Blanca's Alex Greer carries a 4.63 grade point average carrying a class load of AP courses in biology, statistics, English Literature, calculus, as well as Latin and leadership. He is a member of the cross country and tennis teams. He has run in the CIF cross country championships all four years at Laguna Blanca. Laguna Blanca's Eddie Conk plays on the basketball and tennis teams. Off the court, he’s co-Editor-in-Chief of the school’s online newspaper, The Fourth Estate, and he’s involved in the student philanthropic project, Santa Barbara Sports Drive, where gently used sports equipment and clothing is collected and donated to kids of low-income families. This week’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of Week award winners have something in common: both have led their respective teams on successful CIF playoff runs. Sydney Hedges of Providence Hall girls basketball was named the female winner and Avery Schwartz of Cate boys soccer was recipient of the male winner. Santa Barbara High's Betsy Hendrix and Emilio Gonzalez were named Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week at Monday's press luncheon. Gonzalez led the Dons' boys basketball team to an upset win of Ventura on Thursday by scoring a team-high 22 points. The victory snapped Ventura's 23-game winning streak in the Channel League. Pearl Sinn-Bonanni was a youth phenom and college star in golf in the 1980s. She attended Arizona State, which had a women’s golf team before the 1971 passage of Title IX — the education equality legislation — and was a powerhouse program in the sport. San Marcos garnered both Athlete of the Week honors on Monday. Basketball player Cade Ridenour was voted the male award winner and Emily Allen of the soccer team earned the female award. They were recognized and presented with their plaques at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table’s annual Women in Sports Luncheon at the Earl Warren Showgrounds.
