Megan Meyers steps up her game on tennis court

This was a breakout year for tennis player Megan Meyers, said her coach Liz Frech. Meyers stayed focused and won gold and silver medals at the recent Special Olympics Fall Games in Fountain Valley. She took the gold in singles, winning two matches, including one in a tiebreaker. Her silver medal came in doubles. Steven Murray excels on the softball field

Steven Murray, a member of the softball team, was honored as the Special Olympics Athlete of the Month. Murray has competed for Special Olympics of Santa Barbara for the last two years after arriving from Arizona. He spent part of his childhood in Goleta and played softball with his friends, said coach Kayla Edwards. Ryan Childress ‘a Rock Star’ on Soccer Field

Ryan Childress made an immediate impact with the soccer team. Bocce ball player David Schottler was honored as the Special Olympics Athlete of the Month at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon. Schottler competed at last summer’s Special Olympics Summer Games and plays in the Monday Bocce League at Arnoldi’s Restaurant. Elsa Fryer, who captured a silver medal in the tennis singles competition at the Special Olympics Fall Games in Orange County, was named the Special Olympics Athlete of the Month at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon. Kyle Petersilia and Steve Krauskopf were honored Monday as the Special Olympics Athletes of Month for the last two months. Petersilia, who celebrated his 34th birthday on Sunday, has been participating in Special Olympics sports for 15 straight years. He was honored for his play on the softball field.
