Michael Morando is currently serving as offensive Coordinator for Bishop Diego High School Football where last year he helped lead the team to a 9-2-1 record, setting and breaking many offensive records for the Cardinals.

Michael graduated from Catholic High School in 1955 after accomplishing the following: 1951-1952 was “All League” “B” basketball and he set the game scoring record of 28 points. In 1954, he was Junior Class President, earned “All League” in Varsity Basketball and served as Team Captain in the State Finals. In 1955 he was elected to serve as Student Body President and set a scoring record in Varsity Basketball of30 points. He also received ”All League” recognition in both Varsity Football and Varsity Baseball.

While attending the University of Notre Dame from 1956-1959, Michael lettered in track and set the school record in javelin which still stands. He son the javelin event at Central Collegiate Track Meet in Milwaukee in 1958 and was named Most Improved Player.

During his U.S. Military Service he received the Distinguished Flying Cross from the U.S. Air Force plus 21 air medals for missions flown in Vietnam. He flew DC 1 O’s and was Captain on 727’s and F-1OO’s while flying for American Airlines.

His distinguished coaching career began in 1969 as Head Coach for the United States Air Force Academy Handball Team. During 1971-197 4, his teams placed in the top six at the U.S. Handball Association Collegiate Championships.
