Won total of 12 varsity letters at Santa Barbara High in football, basket­ ball and track. All-County in football as a fullback, linebacker and place­ kicker. Captain and All-American foot­ ball player at UCLA. Also Pacific Coast Conference heavyweight boxing champion in 1930-31-32. Former NFL referee, work­ing 2 championship games in 1950-51.
