The Athlete of the Week award winners came from the pool at the final Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon of the 2016-17 school year. SBCC diver Gina Jacobson and swimmer Teodor Velikov of Dos Pueblos were named the winners at Monday’s Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe. DP’s Miles Baldwin scores upset win; Maija Ninness sets San Marcos record

Dos Pueblos tennis player Miles Baldwin and San Marcos record-setting swimmer Maija Ninness were honored as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe. Ninness beat her own school record in the 100 backstroke and won the event at the Mt. SAC Meet of Champions. She clocked 56.96, breaking the previous mark of 58.39 she set as a freshman in 2015. Brie Walker of the undefeated Cate girls lacrosse team and San Marcos baseball player Diego Jasso were recognized at the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe. Westmont basketball player Kayla Sato and San Marcos High swimmer Matt Mills were honored as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon. Dos Pueblos water polo goalkeeper Anna Cable and Santa Barbara High soccer forward Brandon Garcia have been named the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week. Garcia score game-winning goals in Channel League victories over Buena and San Marcos last week. Dos Pueblos swept the Athlete of the Week awards at the first Santa Barbara Athlete Round Table press luncheon of 2017 on Monday at Harry’s Plaza Cafe. Girls water polo player Ryann Neushul and Diego Riker of the boys basketball team received the honors for their performances last week. Carpinteria High’s Alejandra Alvarez and Westmont College’s Cory Blau had the finishing touch in games last week. Alvarez scored five goals in two matches for the Carpinteria girls soccer team and Blau poured in 28 points, including some clutch baskets down the stretch in regulation time and the second overtime of Westmont's conference-opening men's basketball win at The Master’s College. A pair of Dos Pueblos seniors were honored as the Athletes of the Week at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon on Monday. Wrestler Ryan Fidel and girls basketball player Camila Casanueva received the awards for their performances in tournaments over the weekend. Katherine Sheehy of the SBCC women’s soccer team and San Marcos High basketball player Jackson Stormo were honored as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Café. Stormo was the leading scorer in San Marcos’ first two games of the season.
