San Marcos softball looks for strong second half of Channel League play

The San Marcos girls softball team earned an emotional 8-4 win over Dos Pueblos last Tuesday and is a solid 5-1 in Channel League play heading into the second half of league matchups. Other than a 6-0 loss to undefeated Buena, the Royals have run the table in league competition, outscoring their opponents 34-8 over five games. Carpinteria baseball player Robert Warren and SBCC ace softball pitcher Madison McNamee were honored as the Athletes of the Week at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon. Also recognized were the Athletes of the Week from the week before school spring break. They are catcher Jade Sinskul of the Dos Pueblos softball team and San Marcos golfer Chad Visser. A no-hit pitching performance by Westmont’s Daniel Butler and walk-off grand slam by Dos Pueblos softball player Nova Sinskul in extra innings earned them Athlete of the Week honors at Monday’s Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon. Madison Pickett is a Dos Pueblos softball standout who can tell you all about mechanics. And not just the mechanics of pitching or hitting. Pickett is part of the Engineering Academy at Dos Pueblos and takes courses like Mechatronics Design. ROBERT VICKERS, DOS PUEBLOS BASEBALL Vickers tallied off-the-chart statistics at the San Luis Obispo Tournament last week. The senior shortstop crushed two grand slams, scored eight runs and hit for a .625 average in four Charger victories. His on-base percentage was even better at .733 and his slugging percentage was a stratospheric 1.380.
