In his first Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table media luncheon appearance of the winter season, Santa Barbara High girls basketball coach Andrew Butcher recalled his very first luncheon more than 30 years ago and the coaching he received from the late Larry Crandell. Anais Jimenez a phenomenal athlete, student at SBHS

Anais Jimenez was named Santa Barbara High's recipient of the Phil Womble Ethics in Sports Award at Monday's Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon at Harry's Plaza Cafe. Jimenez plays basketball, lacrosse and is a member of the Dons' cheer squad. She is also active in student government— she was the class president during her freshman and sophomore years. The playoffs have brought out the best in Brandon Sanchez and Amber Melgoza of Santa Barbara High. The two Dons seniors have been brilliant in their respective sports in the CIF Playoffs and were honored Monday at the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table press luncheon as the Athletes of the Week. CIF playoff basketball teams in traffic jam sessions on the road

The road is rough in the CIF playoffs, with traffic being the most stressful part for traveling teams. The San Marcos and Santa Barbara boys basketball teams experienced the "jam session" of freeway gridlock traveling to their second-round games last Friday. Basketball players Alondra Jimenez of Santa Barbara High and Michael Bryson of UCSB were honored as the first Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athletes of the Week for 2016.
